Wear resistant plates

Industeel wear resistant steels are produced by two techniques:

  • Ingot technique. Used primarily for special high-alloy steels and thick plates with high unit weights.
  • Continuous casting. The most common industrial process used to produce alloy steels in the usual sizes. Advantages include high productivity and lower manufacturing costs.

Industeel proposes a unique range of abrasion-resistant products comprising two complementary steel solutions:

Standard solution / Fora

For this product family, resistance to abrasion depends exclusively on the steel hardness obtained after water quenching. The chemical composition (primarily the carbon content) can be adjusted to adapt the hardness (400, 450, 500 HB) to various abrasion needs.

Wear Resistant plates

High manufacturing quality with precisely balanced chemical compositions and high-performance secondary metallurgy ensure the best compromise between mechanical properties and usage properties (machining, forming, thermal cutting, welding).

This solution is ideal for standard abrasion applications that require workable steels with resistance to wear by sliding or moderate impacts.

Alternative solution / Creusabro ®

This is an original solution based on the exceptional properties of TRIP (transformation Induced by Plasticity) steels. Whereas standard water-quenched steels offer only passive resistance through the original hardness obtained after quenching, TRIP steels go beyond this to achieve an effective increase in wear resistance while in service.

Three important metallurgical properties are combined to make these steels the ideal solution for severe abrasion applications:

  • Homogeneous hardness on delivery (due primarily to oil quenching)
  • Work hardening (ability to acquire hardness when in service)
  • Presence of microcarbides (Cr, Mo and Ti), reinforcing the microstructure in the same way as in composite materials

In addition, the mixed microstructure (martensite, bainite) of these steels, characterized by the presence of highly ductile residual austenite results in exceptional resistance to impacts and cracking while offering improved workability.
