Electronics & household appliances

General

Home electronics & houseold appliancesHome electronics products such as cameras, computers and televisions and household appliances like microwave ovens, washing machines and vacuum cleaners all include plastic parts produced in injection molds made of special steels.

Steel cost is minimal compared to the total cost of making a mold. However, the right steel can produce substantial savings both in the making of the mold and in the production of the plastic parts through reduced mold maintenance, longer mold service life, simplified mold repair, higher productivity, better overall quality and fewer part defects.

Industeel offers a wide range of standard steel grades for moldmaking and also special steels (Superplast®) providing specific properties, in particular concerning machinability, homogeneity, weldability and thermal conductivity.

And remember, we have extensive experience and know-how in mold steels. If you are not sure which steel is best suited to your needs, why not give us a call.

Case studies

1. Plastic injection molds for camera parts

Customer: CMS Mold Design Co. Ltd. (Thailand)
Industeel partner: SIN THAI Special Steel Co. Ltd. (Thailand)
Final market: Electronic goods (Security camera part for JVC).

Former solution: 718 grade mold steel
Problem: The molds were expensive to make and easily scratched
Industeel solution: Superplast® 400

Results:
- cost effective molds
- excellent hardness homogeneity throughout thickness
- higher scratch resistance
- improved polishability

2. Plastic injection molds for printer parts

Home electronics appliancesCustomer: SAMSUNG Electronics (Korea)
Industeel partner: Young Deung Po (Korea)
Final market: Home electronics (Printer parts).

Former solution: Domestic steel 300 HB
Problem: Faster machining and shorter injection cycles were required.
Industeel solution: Superplast® 300

Results:
- injection time improved compared to previous grade
- shorter machining time

Superplast has been officially approved by Samsung for this application.

3. Plastic injection molds for printer parts

Customer: Aapico Plastics Co. Ltd. (Thailand)
Industeel partner: SIN THAI Special Steel Co. Ltd. (Thailand)
Final market: Home electronics (Printer parts).

Former solution: P20 grade steel
Problem: Limited hardness and polishability
Industeel solution: Superplast® 300

Results:
- shorter machining and polishing times
- improved skin quality

4. Plastic injection molds for clock parts

Customer: SEIKO Clocks
Industeel partner: SIN THAI Special Steel Co. Ltd. (Thailand)
Final market: Household appliances (Ornamental part of a wall clock).

Former solution: Nak 80 grade steel.
Problem: NaK 80 allowed the necessary mirror finish to be obtained by polishing with no. 1500 diamond paste, but a less expensive solution was required.
Industeel solution: Superplast® 400

Results:
- Superplast® 400 provided a better compromise between suitable cost and machining and polishing requirements.
