Coal-to-Liquid (CTL)
Vast reserves worldwide mean coal will remain a major term in the energy equation. After mining, it may be used in solid form for electricity generation, but can also be transformed into a liquid fuel capable of replacing other energy sources.
The use of CTL (coal to liquid) technology is growing rapidly and involves a number of steps, depending on the process employed. For both direct (dissolution and cracking) and indirect (gasification followed by the Fischer-Tropsch reaction) methods, the reactors used require high-performance steels.

Gas-to-Liquid (GTL)
Natural gas is most often used in its gaseous state for heating, cooking and electricity generation, but it can also be converted into liquid fuel to replace other fuels, notably for transportation applications.
The GTL (gas to liquid) technology has come of age and involves a number of steps. The first is to create a synthetic gas that is then converted to liquid form via the Fischer-Tropsch reaction. Process equipment requires high-performance steel components.
Industeel has a complete range of steel products suited to the needs of the GTL process, including steel plate for the reactors and very thick plates for the tube plates.
Petrochemicals
